A Toast to the Future! Auld Lang Syne
As 2023 approaches faster than we could have ever imagined, it is time to reminisce about our past year and looking into the future — to all the wonderful things to look ahead to. But before you break out the bubbly at your annual New Year’s Eve party, take some time to brush up on your public speaking skills. After all, giving a champagne toast is one of the most special traditions out there on New Year’s — and you are going to want to make sure the last thing you say in 2022 really counts.
And after a particularly rough couple of years, the pressure is on to make this one of the Best New Year’s toasts ever!
The song Auld Lang Syne is the most popular song we sing at the midnight hour and is based on a poem published by Robert Burns in 1788, though he noted that the song had already been in circulation for years before he put it in writing. The lyrics “we’ll take a cup o’ kindness yet” refers to the tradition of raising a glass, or a cup o’ kindness meaning “good will, friendship and kind regard” and in remembrance of “noble deeds.”
You can us an ever-appropriate quote as you raise a glass, or stick to a short and sweet New Year’s Wish … either way you’ll help everyone say goodbye to the past and hello to the future. Here are some sample Toasts for 2023:
